What the site does

A homeowner in Aurora fills in the request form with a name, a phone number, the scope that's closest and a few lines about the kitchen. That request is passed to a remodeler who does that kind of work in the city, and the remodeler gets in touch to talk about the job and, if it suits you both, to quote it.

The scopes are the ones a kitchen actually breaks down into. Refacing the cabinets keeps the boxes and replaces what you see. New cabinets replace the boxes too. Countertops can be done on their own, and a full remodel moves things. Picking one on the form tells the remodeler what kind of visit to plan.

What we don't do

We don't remodel kitchens. There's no crew, no workshop, no design studio and no showroom behind this site, and we don't sell cabinets, counters or appliances. We don't set the price of a job, either: the quote is the remodeler's, and any fee they charge for measuring or design is theirs to state before you agree to it.

Nothing you send commits you to anything. A request starts a conversation with a remodeler, and nothing is agreed until you accept a quote from them.

Checking a remodeler yourself

We don't check contractor licences, insurance or past work, so we don't describe anyone as licensed or approved. You can check the licence part yourself, and in Aurora it takes a minute.

The City licenses the contractors who work inside its limits. Its Building Division puts it this way: "To work in the city of Aurora as a contractor, you will need to obtain the appropriate license to build, construct, alter, repair, add to, demolish or move any building or structure." Its Online Contractor Lookup Tool searches by business name or by licence type, and Remodeling Contractor is one of the types listed. The City adds that it "cannot endorse any of these contractors", so a result tells you a licence is on file and nothing more.

Electricians and plumbers are different. The City "does not issue a separate plumbing or electrical contractor license" and instead requires a current State of Colorado licence on file. Those are issued by the State's Electrical Board and Plumbing Board. Moving a sink is plumbing work and adding a circuit is electrical work, so a bigger kitchen job often brings in one of them. Where requests come from

The City says it covers more than 165 square miles and "reaches into Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas counties" (About Aurora). Requests come from anywhere in the city and from the Denver metro around it. For a home inside city limits, the City's rules apply whichever county the house is in.

Why there are guides

They're there so a quote can be read with some context, whoever it comes from.

How the site is paid for

Sending a request costs a homeowner nothing. The site is paid for by remodelers, who may pay for the requests passed to them. That's the whole business, and the privacy policy and the terms say the same.
